Backing up GoAnywhere User Data

Post by Support_Jake »

Overview
All user data and configurations for GoAnywhere are stored in a folder called userdata, which is located
under the GoAnywhere installation directory.

Follow the instructions in this section if you are using GoAnywhere in a non-clustered "Active-Passive" configuration, in which only one installation of GoAnywhere is running at a time.

Environment
GoAnywhere MFT - all versions

Resolution

The default paths to the userdata folder for each platform is listed below:

Windows: C:\Program Files\Fortra\GoAnywhere\userdata
IBM i: /Fortra/goanywhere/userdata
Linux and UNIX: /usr/local/Fortra/GoAnywhere/userdata
Mac OS X: /Applications/Fortra/GoAnywhere/userdata

You should backup the GoAnywhere userdata folder (and its contents) in your regular backup
processes. It is recommended to backup this userdata folder at least daily.

Notes
Warning: If using the embedded Derby database (which is the default) in GoAnywhere, and you plan to perform backups while GoAnywhere is running, then you should exclude the subfolder userdata/database/goanywhere from your backup processes since there will be a lock on the files in this subfolder (which is the embedded Derby database). However, this Derby database is saved nightly (by default) to a subfolder named userdata/database/backups, which you should backup.
